INVESTMENT STRATEGY

The Poplar Forest investment strategy allows the flexibility to invest in large and small cap stocks, but we will always be biased toward the larger end of that scale. We thoroughly examine every sector of the market, but we are not afraid to ignore investing in entire sectors for extended periods of time. Most analytical work in the investment business is focused on what results for companies might be over the next few quarters. INVESTMENT PROCESS

The investment process at Poplar Forest initiates from a variety of sources - third party ideas, value / quality screening and our own internal analyst ideas. After a series of steps are taken (financial statement analysis, conversations with management, internal investment team discussions, etc.), the most promising potential investments are assigned for more extensive review. Investments in companies are made only after normalized out-year earnings estimates have been established, free cash flow projections have been made and a full review of the risk/reward of this investment against all current investments in the portfolio has been conducted.
