In 1806, Thomas Jefferson laid the foundation for his second home – Poplar Forest. Relative to the more well known Monticello, Poplar Forest was smaller and more private – a place Jefferson could more easily pursue his passions for reading, studying and thinking.
Two centuries later, we started building Poplar Forest Capital on a foundation of traditional values that are as sensible today as they were in Jefferson's time.
Formed in Pasadena, California in September 2007, Poplar Forest Capital, LLC was established with the goal of providing a select group of clients with superior investment results.
Our mission is to achieve superior, risk-adjusted returns, net of fees and taxes, over full market cycles by investing in under-appreciated companies and industries.
In a world increasingly focused on hedge funds and alternative asset managers, the Poplar Forest approach may seem old fashioned. We embrace tradition not out of a sense of nostalgia, but rather in recognition that, for decades, the strategies we employ have been shown to benefit investors.
